Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, established on 19 November 1983, is a premier government-run super-specialty institute in Bihar. Modeled on the lines of AIIMS New Delhi, IGIMS was created under a State Legislature Act to provide advanced healthcare, medical education, and research facilities to Bihar and Eastern India.
The institute began offering the MBBS program in 2011 after receiving recognition from the Medical Council of India (now NMC). Today, IGIMS is not only known for its 150 MBBS seats but also holds the highest number of super-specialty seats in Bihar, offering MD, MS, M.Ch, DM, DNB, PhD, and paramedical programs.
Spread over 131 acres on Bailey Road, Sheikhpura, Patna, IGIMS is the only super-specialty referral institute of Bihar, with future expansion plans to reach 3,000 beds.
