Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is one of India’s premier medical institutions located in Pune, Maharashtra. Managed by the Indian Armed Forces, AFMC has played a pivotal role in medical education and healthcare services for over seven decades. Established in May 1948, it was founded as a postgraduate teaching institute based on the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee. The college was created by amalgamating various Indian Army Medical Corps units to strengthen the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

AFMC’s undergraduate wing started on 4 August 1962, now celebrated as AFMC Day, marking a milestone in the college’s journey of producing highly skilled medical professionals. Recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), the college conducts undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-speciality programs, as well as nursing and paramedical training.
